Jaffna

Jaffna peninsula is the capital city of Northern Province in Sri Lanka where north is like another world away from Colombo where it is much closer to the south Indian area. Mostly the Tamil migrants from Sothern India have settled down in there since from a long period of time therefore it is rich in colorful Hindu temples and Hindu cultural behavior patterns.

The city is surrounded by the Jaffna lagoon and according to many scientific investigations it is believed that Jaffna was submerged under the sea for a long period of the time therefore many limestone areas can be identified around all most every area around this peninsula.    Actually Jaffna consist of a unique and inherited culture which is a mixture of Hindu culture from southern India and Buddhist culture from the central Sri Lanka. After a civil war which was took place more than 30 years new Jaffna is rising again from its unique passionate culture and traditions where you can witness a rising city with all new buildings, houses and temples. Historically Jaffna is popular as a colonial area which belongs to Portuguese and Dutch which used to invade the Nallur capital in the Jaffna kingdom. Most of the local and foreign visitors have many popular places to visit which are important in historically and Archeologically including Nallur temple, Nagadeepa Buddhist temple, Jaffna fort, Naga pooshini temple, Jaffna public library, Delft island,  Caesarian beach and  elephant pass.
